Our mission is to compile, organize, systematize and make available the information needed to put long-term cultural policies into action by means of a thorough understanding of the infrastructure and exhibition spaces available.

Museums, foundations, libraries, archives, cultural centers, universities and artistic, historic and scientific temporary exhibition locations.

Philosophy.

The philosophy of Culturable is to bring together in a single platform a large quantity of varied information on the technical characteristics of temporary exhibition locations and available exhibition spaces.
Culturable provides a forum for all types of exhibitions and spaces, advancing and respecting cultural diversity and promoting the interchange of exhibitions between all cultural agents.

Expression as a unit of measurement.

Temporary exhibitions are, without a doubt, one of most common ways to promote culture among the population. They are independent from other events or areas of the institutions that are responsible for realizing or receiving them; they are part of museology and though they involve several facets of museum science, they are not exclusively dependent on them. On many occasions, such aspects do not even come into play as, for example, in the case of a didactic exhibition which requires no conservation.

More, not less.

There are public platforms (very few) and networks that have information about exhibitions that generate and manage availability over the net. Being part of Culturable is not meant in any way to take the place of these. We aim to combine forces.

How is culturable different from other databases?

Specific, technical and valuable information: The databases that exist now are few and far between and except in the rare case, are solely directed at general museum exhibition spaces. The data is basic: name, owner and contact info, along with some information about the institution. Culturable is a technical database with specific information.
For professionals: The existing databases, in addition to being scarce and providing sparse information, are public. Culturable is a work tool and as such is only available to professional temporary exhibition managers.
Transversal: Other databases tend to concentrate on spaces of the same type. Culturable understands that a temporary cultural exhibition space is valid independently of its proprietors or of what the type of space it is and what type of facilities it has (museums, cultural centers, libraries, etc.)

How does it work?

The way it works is very simple: every institution fills out a card providing all the technical information for the space or exhibition available. Once it has been checked and approved the new institution will have access to the data of other institutions and exhibits that have already been entered in the database.
